An exhibition by Mairead McCormack Artist, exploring the linen industry in Northern Ireland - its impact, influence and forgotten tales.
Textile Artist Mairead McCormack works mainly on Irish linen, exploring traditional textile techniques including hand embroidery and drawn thread work.
There once was a time when women were proud to display their finest linens. And now?
In an age of revolutionary technology and social media, with its benefits and drawbacks, I want to question how traditions fit within a modern society.
I want to bring elements of traditional textile techniques, intricately hand-made or mended with pride in our efforts, to modern society. Do these elements of quality and authenticity truly resonate with younger generations, or is there a glitch in the system?
Glitched will be part of Craft NI's #AugustCraftMonth and Northern Ireland's first ever Linen Biennale NI running from August - October 2018.
Exhibition Launch: 2 August, 7pm.
The exhibition will run from 3 Aug - 31 Oct 2018
